The 2015 GOALS OF DHKP-C: Analysis of Discourse and Strategy
DHKP-C, which carries out its activities with attempts to solve its long-term problem of activity that it has been living because of the lack of “capacity” in the process over the past last 6-7 years, has determined to reach its former organizational capacity and power of activity as the main target in this period. The organization that weights mostly its restructuring activities in the legal field and propaganda activities to aim at gaining members and sympathizers was aiming at evaluate the possibilities of expanding its base in this way.
In 2012-2013, the practice of legal structure and propaganda activities has begun to show itself in a concrete way under the platform of operational mobility; many attempts of action have been in question during this period, and most of them have been carried out. The Gezi Park events, lived in this period of operational mobility beginning by the process 2012-2013, have been of importance in the nature of the turning point in terms of the organization.
This process for DHKP-C, which lives a problem in terms of the source of propaganda and discourse for a long time and which is stuck in several basic discourses in this context, has been considered as a process in which new sources are obtained. The organization, which builds its propaganda and rhetoric fiction on “the Revenge of the Massacre December 19” (the Operation for Return to Life is described in this way for the organizational jargon), an enemy image drawn for the Ruling Party AK Party, a political disintegration lived between the Kurdish political movement and groups, and a cooperation with the Syrian regime by the Syrian crisis is interpreted with an “anti-imperialist framework” especially in the recent years, has entered in a new period in terms of propaganda, discourse, and strategy by the Gezi Park events.
DHKP-C which describes the Gezi Park events as “June Uprising” has found an opportunity to directly contact with mass and especially young people in this process. DHKP-C that adopts itself and defining this process as a “revolutionary process” that itself leads has particularly exchanged its action strategies with the actions suitable for the nature of social movement, instead of the actions of armed attacks and live bombs that it applies for a while. The traces of this change can be observed in many street conflicts carried out during and after the Gezi Park events.
DHKP-C that highlights the discourses of “Gezi Martyrs” and “Revenge of Gezi Martyrs” instead of the discourse of “the Massacre December 19”, which is used as a motto for years, in terms of its propaganda and discourse will try to form a base of legitimacy for its potential actions with the images of providing vengeance and justice in this point by owning the people dying during the Gezi Park events as if each one is a member of that organization. In this context, the discourse of “Revenge of Gezi Martyrs” is a tool, which can be functionally used by the organization for long years, just like “Revenge of December 19”.
The organization, which aims at constituting a new social movement and a process of “Gezi Park events” with the slogan of “Revenge of Gezi Martyrs” in 2015, will attempt to win the sympathy of the sectors, having the possibility of supporting the organization under normal circumstances, by trying to instrument the atmosphere for itself that is lack of an ideological foundation and decomposition and that appears during the Gezi Park events. In addition, DHKP-C that will show more attempt of efficiency with street demonstrations and clashes, which are its new strategy of action, will launce itself as “the only way of solution” and “the people’s true representative” by owning many social problems from mine accidents to problems of young people (drugs, corruption, etc) in its organizational discourse and process of propaganda. In this way, while its desire to win sympathy and support with its legal field construction comes to the foreground, it will be again tried to build the legitimacy with the identities of “People’s Representative / People’s Justice” in the point of terrorist acts to be performed. When the regional conjuncture and the domestic political problems of Turkey are considered, it will be remarkable for the moves of DHKP-C towards its mentioned targets in the coming period.
