Analysis of Turkey Current Political Issues

Since the Turkish Republic was established, “Peace at home, peace in the world” principle has always constituted the basis of Turkish foreign policy originated by the founder of Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. As formulated on this principle of Atatürk, Turkish foreign policy can be analysed in two terms. The first one refers to the traditional period which contains Turkey’s foreign policy until the end of the Cold War. The second terms includes the transformation process that has started in the late 1980s with Turgut Özal period and with the end of Cold War. Egypt and Turkey Never Had the Same Scenario

Shortly after the outbreak of Turkey’s Gezi Park protests, many people drew parallels between the situation in Turkey and Egypt. Recep Tayyib Erdogan's reaction to Morsi's removal has given the wrong impression to many people who quickly jumped into relating both scenarios. What is manifested by media as a region-wide backlash against ruling Islamist parties can be an explanation for the protests in Turkey, but does not reveal the character of longstanding struggles for revolutionary change in Egypt. Any clarification about the different contexts cannot be made without retelling the well-known story of how Erdogan is viewed in the Middle East, particularly in Egypt. ...
